(More customer reviews)My son is 10 and wants to be an architect. (Not sure why, I want him to help us sell real estate.) Anyway, this product is a perfect connection between the two of us because it requires a determined and patient mind to complete the project; not because its difficult, but because it takes time to get it right - and to let the mortar set.
Most kids enjoy building LEGOs - but stop using them when the Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter, etc., gets too complicated and time-consuming to complete. For someone who builds the entire starfighter, this is for that child.
What we did was build an actual time chart of which portions of the project are to be completed. This works out well since the wheelbarrow holds a particular amount of mixed mortar/water and you don't want to have too much left over during each build. He also sees that a project flow chart is easy to build and important.
If you think your child has enough determination to see a project through he/she will be very proud of this accomplishment. Again, not because its so hard, but because of the sense of accomplishment in building something "on your own."
After the bridge is complete (next few days), he wants to order more mortar and bricks; not a different pre-designed structure. Why? - he wants to draw a simple blueprint and build something of his own design. Its wonderful to see the pride in doing this.
The product is packaged very well, there are no complex instructions, and it really can only be built the way it is designed in the photos included. If you have a model-builder who wants to build something by hand, this is a lot of fun.
The project may start out a little slow, but children need to learn that one doesn't reach Success by taking the elevator; they have to take the stairs - one step at a time.
