My dad got this for my six year old son as a present, but I was the one who ended up building it (and rebuilding it) with him.
I don't specifically remember the bombers from Star Wars but it was a "cool spaceship" so take it as that.
Overview
I would consider this kit to be a small kit (100-300 pieces), it wasn't too expensive. By the time I got involved my son had built about half of it.
Directions
The directions were what I consider average. They show each step with what is build on the previous ones. I prefer the directions that show you the pieces to be used in the step.
Assembly
Assembly was not exactly linear or straight forward. You have to assemble the bomb dropping mechanism which was a bit complex (spacing and offset). The asymmetrical design added to the challenge but in the end it came out ok and if you don't build it right its obvious in the later stages.
Features
This kit has several key play features, first and foremost is the ability to drop "bombs". There are two racks each holds two bombs. They are activated by pulling back on a lever against rubber band tension. Sometimes the bombs can be a bit "sticky".
Moving "heads" that flip up and down are another feature. They are held on by spindly robot minifigure arms identical to the battledroid parts (kind of neat).
Finally the wings/legs rotate down and move back and forth a bit as if for walking.
Minifigures
The kit comes with 3 droid soldier minifigures with jetpacks.
Playability
I'll give this kit an average rating as far as playability. The main flaw is that the key features are not very durable. The wings/legs were constantly breaking off (too spindly). The raising heads were also easy to snap off as well. Then you had to figure out which head went where (there are three).
I rebuilt the legs with fewer, shorter parts (less flexibility) which helped but the set didn't hold my sons interest like others have. In the end it suffered the eventual fate of all lego sets, it got broken up for parts and mixed into the general pool. In that function it does offer some unique parts, mainly the curved front (each is ? circle) and the long compound curved wing/leg pieces.
So in Review
Pro's
Some very interesting pieces
Reasonably priced
Fun to build
Cons
Final product is a little bit fragile.
Not as interesting as some other ships.
Conclusion
Not a great set but not a poor one either, reasonably priced, a good build and some good parts. A nice one for the collection.
