(More customer reviews)There were five vehicles initially released from the four Indiana Jones movies. Since Crystal Skull was the latest obviously they have two from there jungle cutter and Hangar 51 Rocket Sled. There was also the cargo truck with Indiana dragging behind it from Raiders and from The Last Crusade, the blimp escape biplane. If you're interested I also bought the truck and plane and have written reviews on those as well so check them out if interested.
Anyway the tank itself is well detailed. If you are a die-cast tank collector you'll probably rate this a bit higher than me because as a tank alone it's very, very good. However most buyers of this product are likely to be buying this due to its link with Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Therefore the fact that it does not come with any figures (the other four vehicles do) is a bit of a let down.
Ultimately the tank ended up over a cliff in the movie and would have been so much better with a German soldier and Indy on it (in fact the Indy from the cargo truck would have been perfect, they could have just reused it gluing it to the tread. In fact you may even want to buy two cargo trucks and do this yourself. The treads do not move at all which is also a bit disappointing. The tank does move though and fast (although why it need to as the tank in the movie was real slow) as it has four little hidden wheels underneath. These are hidden very well and you can't see them unless you flip the tank. The two guns (one of both sides of the tank rotate slightly as does the main one on the turret on top. The actual barrel though, is made of soft plastic for some reason so is slightly bent and weakens the overall look of the tank dramatically. Why they didn't make it out of metal like the rest of the tank is anyone's guess. Even hard plastic would have been better!
There is no scale at all on the packaging but the actual size of the die-cast tank is roughly the same size as your everyday Matchbox/Johnny Lightning/Hot Wheels die-cast car which are 1/64.
All these vehicles come with a little brown stand that is supposed to represent a rocky dirt ground but actually looks like something you might step in if an irresponsible dog owner hasn't picked up after their dog. It's the exact same one for all of five of these vehicles which is a bit stupid although the tank fits the best on it and therefore looks the best on it.
The packaging although not the easiest to open can be opened with scissors in an Egyptian mummy coffin way to pretty much conserve the packaging for resale (all you'd have to do is put some tape down the side if you cut along the bottom, top and one side where the plastic meets the cardboard backing). It is worthwhile keeping the packaging as it does have some movie info on the back (see customer images) plus if you want to resell later you are likely to get slightly more.
Overall this tank and the other Indiana Jones vehicles are pretty cheap, you should be able to get them each for under $5 from somewhere, and are well worth owning. There was also a second release which included the motorbike with sidecar from Crusade and a few other vehicles. Check out my customer images to see the packaging and some of the stuff I've talked about in this review.
