(More customer reviews)The product says "8+", so my in-laws purchased it for my son's 7th birthday (he's pretty advanced when it comes to building things, was putting together 100+ piece puzzles at the age of 4). The instruction booklet has, I believe, 67 or so pages. It has 400 pieces. It was WAY too complicated. It took my 7 year old, the 8 year old across the street, the 11 year old next door and my 41 year old husband 5 hours to complete. It is not sturdy. They assembled it on our dining room table and the three pads at the bottom (two purple on the outside and one grey on the inside, as you see in the picture) don't lock well together. We prayed like fiends that it would survive the move to the coffee table (it did, only two parts fell off), but now we have to find a way to move it upstairs to the children's play area). The 7 & 8 year old's were bored to tears after the first 20 mintues of assembly. So, my husband and the 11 year old finished it. Then the boys (ages 7,8 and 11, and my 4 year old daughter) played with it for maybe an hour on and off, and now they have lost interest. Would be a much better toy if it had fewer small pieces, would be better if it had large pieces that could be assembled in different ways instead of just this one configuration. Once the kids figured out the path they were bored. My husband is less than pleased with his mother for purchasing this and is threatening to get a drumset to keep at her house for all of the grandchildren to play with. The toy looks cool, however, I also forgot to mention that once assembled the tracks shift a bit every now and then so the marble stops and you have to adjust the tracks. I would not purchase this toy unless you have a child who really, really likes to build.
