Caterpillar Construction Truck- Backhoe Loader Review

(More customer reviews)The Mega Bloks 7800 CAT Construction Backhoe Loader is a great toy for our son. It is well made and has a lot of details, such as a Caterpillar diesel motor in the engine compartment with a hood that hinges up for access. The design and quality of construction are very good. This is compatible with LEGO Duplo bricks. The front end bucket can be used to load a dump truck with pretend brick-rocks or actual small pebbles.
Know what you're buying: this is not suitable for use outdoors in actual dirt, because the fine details that make this interesting will get messed up in the dirt. It is at home indoors with LEGO Duplo bricks and other medium sized toy vehicles and construction equipment.
The tires are very nice with interesting details such as actual metric sizes moulded into the sidewall. (Really!) The vehicle rolls well - straight and smooth - across a flat floor. This is the most realistic and functional backhoe loader I've seen for preschoolers.

Mega Bloks CAT Articulated Dump Truck Review

(More customer reviews)The MEGA BLOKS CAT 7801 Articulated Dump Truck is pretty good, but I notice defects in the design.First the good: along with the other construction CAT series vehicles, this one is a lot of fun for 3YO and up. It is compatible with LEGO Duplo bricks, but has more details than the typical Duplo vehicle. It has its own detachable engine (plastic molding, not a working motor) and engine compartment hood that opens up for access. There is a wrench that fits the wheel hubs and other parts, and this can be fun to perform pretend service on the vehicle.
Weakness: the overall vehicle is not rugged enough to be used in actual dirt or sand without making it a real mess with effect on the moving parts. The dump mechanism is a weakness because the rear hinge is too weak and comes apart too easily. The simulated hydraulic lifters for the dump are fun to look at, but may not be strong enough to stand up to rough play-use as a dump truck for actual dirt.
For indoor use, with other vehicles and things, this is worthy. My son has the Mega Bloks CAT 614 Material Hauler and that truck set gets more play time and is sturdier than the CAT 7801 dump truck.
I do like the concept and the accessories. It looks just the same as the articulated dump trucks he has seen in several DVDs including the Road Construction Ahead 2 (by Little Hardhats) DVD.
This dump truck is a good one for a child that enjoys playing with LEGO Duplo construction toys indoors, but this is not as rugged as I think it should be to get used in dirt.
Another weakness is the articulated joint that connects the cab with the dump trailer. This is a great concept, and it looks and functions just fine, but is not quite the best engineering for tougher play such as being tossed into a toy bin. The way the joint connects, the cab can hit the dump body and the center of the truck seems to sag a bit too much in normal use. But the truck rolls very well across a smooth floor, and the soft rubber tires are very quiet and look great.
Dump trucks are very important for most play activities, and he does like it.
LEGO Duplo now has a construction dump truck: LEGO Duplo Dump Truck 5651 that is also fun, but completely different than this articulated dump truck.

Mega Bloks Bag (70) Review

(More customer reviews)Most people have spent some time with LEGO-type toys in general so I will try and provide some info about this set / bag specifically.
The first thing I wondered when my son got this as a gift was would they ever fit back in the bag? Almost never happens with toys, but amazingly in this case they do. Sometimes they need to be jostled or re-arranged a bit but it is realistic to actually store the blocks in the bag. The bag is just plastic but is surprisingly tough. Ours lasted for a couple of years of normal use without the top or bottom tearing out or anything (and was still going strong when we passed it along to another family when my son outgrew this size). It spent much of that time stuffed under a side table in the living room. It had an unfortunate knack for accumulating dog hair but what can you do.
The blocks in this bag are mostly in the 1x1 to 1x4 neighborhood (meaning between a single square and a row of 4). There are a couple of larger sizes but for the most part these simpler sizes mean you will be able to make simpler constructs. I believe this is good for the target audience of the little ones though. My son always wanted (me) to make a "garage" his Hot Wheels could drive in, or alternately a "tunnel" they could drive through and come out the other side which works well.

Mega Bloks CAT Material Hauler Review

(More customer reviews)My 3yo son and I think the CAT Material Hauler No. 614 is the best of the Mega Bloks vehicle line. It is well crafted, has many useful capabilities for our LEGO Duplo construction site, and is the most fun to reconfigure and customize with other LEGO Duplo components.
Additional comments: I wish I had bought two of these. It is that much fun and the components and accessories are favorites, but get lost. If we had two, then we'd probably still have all the parts for at least one. With LEGO Duplo and these Mega Bloks compatibles, it's all about the parts.
Another Dad says that he glued some of the pieces together, but I think that's just not the way to go with LEGO Duplo, or these compatibles.
I also wish we could buy the plastic girders as separate accessories. They are much more useful with LEGO Duplo and Mega Bloks brick construction site activity than just for use as cargo on this truck.

Magna-Saurs -T-Rex Review

(More customer reviews)I bought four of the magnetix dinosaurs for my five year old son for Christmas. He is crazy about dinosaurs. We had purchased one of the Magnetic men and thought a collection of Dinosaurs would be a good collection. They look good, but fall apart as you play with them. The magnets aren't very strong or durable. I must say they are dissapointing. I would have been better off purchasing a set of plastic figurines that didnt fall apart every time he picked them up.

Mega Bloks Diego at Jaguar Mountain Bucket Review

(More customer reviews)I got this set along with two other Diego Mega Brands sets for my 5 year old for Christmas. All the sets can be used together, and really gives my kids some extra pieces to pretend with. Both my older son and his 2-year-old brother have lots of fun building different animal adventure scenes.
We also got a pack of cheapy, plastic toy wild animals to go along with this...you can find those just about anywhere for just a dollar or two. And with all of the extra animals we added, they really enjoy themselves (...and no fighting over the only jaguar that comes with this set!!!)
Well-made, sturdy toy set that will likely be around for a while.

Also, I was relieved to find that these are compatible with Lego-brand Duplo blocks. Diego has swiveling wrists/hands in order to grasp the zip-line. But, other figures may lack this feature and be unable to hold-on to it like Diego does.

Mega Bloks - Neo Shifters Robot -Scar Dorn -Green-Templar Warrior Review

(More customer reviews)This is a brand new series from Mega-Blocks that hopefully will continue to expand. These construction toys are very cool but just a little unique. My nine year old son has his own way of putting it: "It's what you'd get if a Transformer married a Bionicle, this would be their baby." and the things do look a whole lot like the Bioncle toys. My son has no problem in putting these things together. he's been slapping together Transformers and all kind of Lego kits since he was 4. He did have to really strain to get the arm and leg joints on. they give a definite sanp sound when they lock in. I'm not sure how easy it would be to get them apart. One note: There's a small robot that houses inside the chest of the bigger robot and he is very tiny. when my son went to put the small one together, the little nub part that fits the head to the body snapped right off. I tried to crazy Glue it back on but to no avail. I've written to Mega-Blocks via email and hope that they will send a replacemtn part. Besides that the completed toy seems pretty sturdy to me. It stands with no problem and you can transform it into a big sphere which my son proceeded to roll down the hall like a bowling ball.
There are currently four different ones to collect and my son is looking forward to getting the others. I reccommend this toy, but I'd also reccommend supervising those small parts. (Keep them away from small children.)

He loves the fact that it's a dump truck (which dumps)& you can take it apart. It falls apart when you throw it, which my son thought was so cool. It does stay together when played with normal, not too rough.

(More customer reviews)Our 5 year old child absolutely loves dinosaurs! He receives an allowance and purchased this with his own money. We read the reviews and warned him that the dinosaur may fall apart. However we were pleasantly surprised. The product is able to stand up on it's own, and its wings are able to extend fully and not fall apart. If you do bump the product or swing it around, it will fall apart. Our son enjoys placing the parts back together. We just make sure that we take a zip lock bag for the parts when we travel with the Magna Pterodaktyl. Overall, our son loves this product.

(More customer reviews)I bought this on Amazon as a Christmas gift for my son. This action playset is a little bit more consuming to put together than other similar playsets, as it took a couple hours with the instructions included. I like that you get all (4) of the key characters in Spiderman 3 movie too. One flaw that stands out with this is the crane detaches easy so it's hard for children to play without the crane falling off several times. So one way to fix this is to super-glu the cranes' base to the top of the tower it sits on. It still turns left/right and operates fine, it just doesn't fall off anymore. Other than that, this is a very durable set.

The Mega Bloks are poorly made, and it's very difficult (even for an adult) to get the pieces to stay together. Imagine how frustrating this is for a child.....we will never purchase Mega Bloks products again, we're sticking to the original LEGOs!
Nothing more satisfying than spending money on a gift that makes your child scream and cry in frustration...thanks MegaBloks!

(More customer reviews)I bought this for my 17 month old daughter. So far, she likes it and plays with it everyday. She likes the "trees" and the firetruck and helicopter. She takes the top off the "station" a lot and likes to open the ramps on it. The one thing that bothers me is that the policewoman and fireman and dog are hard to remove from where you attach them, like in the helicopter, or in the firetruck. She ends up taking off the ladder from the truck instead. The firetruck makes siren noises when you press the emblem on the front. The helicopter doesn't fit inside the station. You can put it together in a way that stores the other pieces, except for the firetruck and the helicopter. The firetruck has wheels that can move and the helicopter's blades can also move. You have to move them manually of course.
All in all, this is a decent toy and makes the fill and dump wagon more interesting. At $30 it is overpriced as it is mostly a bunch of plastic pieces. For that price, you'd expect some lights, more sounds, and maybe a song or two.
