If you want to get this, go to lego.com! Its $23 on their site, compared to $45 on amazon. I called amazon to see if they price match and was told they do not. So, save yourself some $$ and you can buy more for less! (review created 11-29-10).

I love this product, but was somewhat disappointed in the number of blocks that came in the large plastic box; not even enough to build a single decent-sized structure. I've since ordered a large bag of additional blocks LEGO DUPLO Brick Set to add to the box.

LEGO Duplo Basic Bricks Review

LEGO Duplo Basic Bricks
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We had a really difficult time finding a decent starter set of Duplo bricks. They just don't sell the simple sets in the stores anymore, which makes no sense because they are the BEST sets. So we ordered this set from Lego. For about half what they're asking here. I've noticed a trend of Lego having the fairest prices of all the stores selling their products. Odd. Anyway, for anything Lego, I would definitely do some comparison shopping using the company website first.
With this set, I was concerned beforehand that there might not be a wide enough variety of pieces, despite the generous number (80 pieces total). This was due in great part to the fact that I couldn't seem to find any photos of the side of the box where they give the detailed information and really this is the only information you're wanting before making a rather sizable Lego purchase, right? Since no one else has mentioned this, I'll show what a total geek I am by publishing these details.
Here's the breakdown of the pieces by size:
56 2x2 peg square pieces
20 2x4 peg rectangular pieces
2 2x4 peg pieces (1/2 thickness of regular pieces)
1 2x6 peg long rectangular piece
1 2x8 peg ex-long rectangular piece
And by color!
14 red
13 each of green and yellow
12 blue
8 each of light green and orange
5 each of black and white
2 transparent blue 2x2 peg pieces
The transparent pieces were an immediate source of tension between my two daughters; they both love them. The entire set is fantastic. It's just the right amount of pieces, and I didn't feel like Lego was as stingy with the rectangles as in the previous 'My First Lego Set' we'd bought. Or maybe it's just that we now finally have enough Legos to really build something! I do wish there had been a couple more large rectangles, and maybe a couple more transparent pieces, but that's not really a gripe.
I think if you're starting out with Duplos, there isn't a better set out there with the right amount of creative, open-ended pieces and affordability. We would have started with this one had it been sold in stores. Another point in its favor, at least as far as I'm concerned, is that it was not made in China or Mexico, but rather in Denmark, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Well this is what they say it is, alot of lego. But dont expect a fancy box. It all came in a cardbord box. But still its a nice expation for my childern as my motto is you can never get to much lego/duplo.
And I think its a educational or atleast a creativ toy, my toddler makes houses for her animals, when she was younger she would make towers ect. So I think its just your imagitaton that sets limits. Only porblem with duplo if you step on it, it hurts, but the toy dont break *smiles*
Living in Norway this cost me 1/6 of what the same amount would cost me at the store so I am super duper happy, dont know what it cost in the usa but this is cheap for me :D

LEGO Duplo Building Set - 71 Pieces (5380) Review

LEGO Duplo Building Set - 71 Pieces (5380)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a father of ten, we've had a number of Duplo sets over the years. Whenever we need to replenish our supply (this year being one such time), we look for a new set based on three basic factors: wheels, people, and price.
Price is a general constraint for us. We're willing to spend $25-$30 for a set of Duplo blocks. They're tremendously durable, and you can even run them through the dishwasher (in one of those cages used for baby bottle accessories). Within that price range, we try to maximize the number of bricks we get. If wanting only bricks (no special pieces), then you should be able to get 80 or more bricks starting at $20 on sale. If you want those parts (wheels and a character)--and in our experience, they are some of the most used parts when the kids play--then you are looking in that $25-$30 range with at least 65 other blocks.
All of our kids, especially the boys, loved having the wheels. They would make cars and trucks, and eventually airplanes and rolling robots. Sure, they could make many of these things without the wheels, but they seemed to play longer when they were making wheeled things.
Both the boys and girls like the little characters, but the girls would often take the Duplo person away to play with other dolls or for other activities. The boys would almost always make the boy a driver, or some person who was running from (or fighting) the giant robot, tank, or whatever they built with the other blocks.
Many people might not think of Duplo blocks as educational, but they are a great tool for teaching little ones about colors, numbers, and matching. It also helps fine-motor coordination as they try to assemble the bricks (especially at the youngest ages). We have a special needs child who was grown very fond of the bricks, and really enjoys assembling and disaassembling small stacks of them (this year's purchase was targeted for him).
**A SPECIAL NOTE ON THEME SETS**
Unless you have a specific desire to get your kids the specially themed Duplo sets (e.g., Bob the Builder), I recommend skipping those and getting just a basic set like this one for these reasons:
1) Cost. Themed sets cost more for less. You end up paying for the name/theme, and little else.
2) You simply get more blocks with the non-themed sets, and more blocks means more fun play.
3) Themeed sets usually have more special (unique) bricks. They can be used with any set, but those specialized bricks often aren't used as much (based on our experiences) in general play.
4) Most kids don't keep the sets together as displayed on the box. They like to tear things apart and build new things. Knowing that they will do that anyway, it seems to decrease the value of the special theme sets. By the time they are old enough to care about keeping sets togehter (or restoring the set to its original layout after playing with the bricks), the kids are about ready for the first regular Lego set.
**ONE EXCEPTION ON THEME SETS (ANIMALS)**
The only theme sets my wife and I will occasionally purchase are the ones with the animal figures and extra people. These are a great gift for a child who already has a supply of Duplo blocks, as they add to the fun.

I got this for the boys (ages 4.5 and 3.5) for Christmas and it was a huge hit! I love that it comes in a storage container that is easy for them to open. They love all the million pieces and different options. The helicopter is often fought over and there are endless combinations to build different buildings and such. The tree with the cat is pretty neat too! Overall a good purchase and well used toy! I thought my older son would find it too basic and prefer the smaller legos but he likes this one better!

LEGO? DUPLO? Bricks & More Deluxe Brick Box 5507 Review

LEGO? DUPLO? Bricks and More Deluxe Brick Box 5507
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Deluxe Brick Box (5507) is LEGO's latest and largest DUPLO bucket, superseding LEGO Duplo Large Brick Box (5506). At 102 pieces, it has 31 more pieces than 5506, ranking in at second place in the current DUPLO lineup (set with the most number of pieces is LEGO Duplo Legoville Deluxe Train Set (5609)). It comes in a very large and sturdy bucket (14 by 10 by 8 inches), with enough room for a couple of additional medium sized DUPLO sets.
This set is geared toward building a house, with 4 flower pieces (may be a choke hazard to younger toddlers), 1 wagon base, 2 minifigures, 2 doors, 2 picket fences, medium sized base plate, 1 eyeball brick, and an assortment of several dozen brick pieces. Also included is an idea booklet.
Although LEGO recommends age between 1.5 to 5 as the target, it is both safe (aside from flower pieces mentioned earlier) and appropriate for those as early as 1 year old. Typical of LEGO, all the pieces are very durable and BPA free (ABS plastic). My only criticism is the inclusion of only one wagon base and eyeball brick.

This set has animals, people, plus a good mix of standard and special blocks when you want to create something. Our daughter liked the people and animals as a 12-month-old, and is now building stuff. (We've added a box of basic duplo blocks to the mix...) You can't go wrong with a lion, a knife-throwing act and a clown canon.

The ringmaster welcomes you to the amazing LEGO Ville circus starring cute animals and exciting acts! The circus performer does her tricks on the horse, while the monkey throws a cake at the clown, and the elephant and lion do their well rehearsed tricks. The show wouldn't be complete without a trapeze act or a cannon shot.

LEGO DUPLO PLAYWALL FROM 3 YEARS Review

LEGO DUPLO PLAYWALL FROM 3 YEARS

I run a family daycare and bought this item last year. Hands down it is the MOST used toy in the place. It's fantastic for the kids to be able to build in another dimension besides table top. It's extended their imagination! Having the 'trays' right under the wall is perfect. When the kids want to build on a table-top, or the floor they know just where the duplos are! It's very sturdy and has withstood constant play for over a year and still looks brand new! I cannot recommend this enough!

Lego Duplo Princess and Pony Picnic Set Review

Lego Duplo Princess and Pony Picnic Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was one of my four-year old granddaughter's favorite birthday presents. She was quickly able to put the Lego pieces together and then enjoyed playing with her new princess and pony. The only complaints were that the pony's hair was difficult to brush with the brush provided, and the crown did not stay on the princess's head easily. Otherwise, the Lego pieces were large, for small hands, and there were just enough to provide a bit of a challenge to put them all together. This was the perfect gift for a child who loves princesses. The pony was similar to the "My Pony" toy. The set even included a birthday cake!

Nice set, but note that this set contains only the blocks. There are no characters, wheels, no bigger building plates ...the later are typically useful for various buildings (roofs or the base). I was surprised to see that little eyes were not printed unto the block, but provided as stickers. I suppose this is even better as you can choose on which block you need the eyes. I wish there was some illustration manual depicting how to build some simple animals...but I guess we'll have to invent them:).

LEGO Duplo My First Set (5416) Review

LEGO Duplo My First Set (5416)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am shocked at the reviews for this product. Nearly every review mentions the fact that the product is "over-priced for the number of blocks you get" or "you may want to skip this product and buy the deluxe duplo set". I totally agree!
This was definitely the most disappointing toy under the tree this year. Our little guy was graduating from Mega-Blocks to Legos and we put this on his wish list. Based on the nearly "5-star" reviews we chose this "first set". But 30 blocks doesn't build much folks. That is nearly $1.00 per block if you exclude the bucket they come in.
We are VERY disappointed in the value of this toy. Before you believe the other "5-Star" reviews, read them carefully. Nearly every one of them states "few blocks for the money" and/or "looking to get more blocks". I am not sure why they gave it "5-stars" if they thought the toy was insufficient for the price or play value.
If you need an expensive bucket to hold Lego's, then this product may be just what you need.
Sheesh!
