Playmobil Advent Calendar: Xmas in Forest Review

Playmobil Advent Calendar: Xmas in Forest
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Every year's Playmobil Advent Calendar is a treat. The calendar basically has two parts, both revolving around 24 little playmobile animals, Santas, presents, and other Christmas-oriented toys: (1) a stand-up sheet to which parents attach 24 little boxes, one for each day of December until Christmas, and (2) a little tableau, where the kids can set up the toys as they open them. Each day, the kids get to open a box and place the toy on the tableau, setting up a scene that will be finished by Christmas Eve.

The 2008 calendar, "Christmas in the Forest," is my favorite yet. Santa is bringing presents (mostly food) to the animals of the forest, so the set has a bunch of mother and baby animals, together with Santa, a sled, and plenty of delicious treats. Playmobil did a great job with this year's calendar. If you don't have one yet, go get one and catch up!

LEGO® City Advent Calendar (7907) Review

LEGOandreg; City Advent Calendar (7907)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This item had so much promise. I had high hopes, my eight year old had high hopes...what better way to anticipate Christmas but with Legos! And a teeny lego kit a day. A huge city was on the side of the box, and I warned my son that there was no way an entire city could fit into those little boxes...or could it? November moved by very slowly.
Let me tell you what he opened: Day 13, A DUMPSTER (thats it!), Day 20, a trash can...because nothing says Christmas like a trashcan. He also got a barrel, a dolly, a computer, and other completely random things. These weren't things you put together either, these were just tiny plastic replicas. On the plus side (?) He got alot of little lego men, a janitor, a police man. But once again, with nothing to put together.
I don't understand the mishmash of items he got! I held my breah that first week or two, praying there was a grand plan to all these weird and completely unrelated items..would it build something? Did it have meaning? Unfortunately, on December 22nd I have decided no. This is a completely odd set, none of the pieces go together, and despite the misnomer of being a "lego" set, nothing snapped into anything else. Just plain strange.

My daughter wanted an advent calendar and picked this one. It is cute, with toys and little add-ons for each day. We would have preferred a lego clikit advent calendar, but those have not been around for a few years. This is a good substitute.

Playmobil Police Christmas Advent Calendar Review

Playmobil Police Christmas Advent Calendar
Average Reviews:

We bought this Police Advent Calendar last night when shopping for a Playmobil Police Motorcyclist, and this entire set was fifty cents more!!! Excellent value for the price, that I would recommend to anyone, looking for an advent calendar, or just as a play set anytime of the year. It says "Playmobil Police Christmas" but be warned that there is absolutely nothing seasonal about this set, unlike "Christmas in the Park" or "Christmas in the Forest", so there is no educational value about the season.
However, it is a fully rounded playset that has enough characters and details to keep your child engaged for hours or years.
It says on the back of the box, which some may not notice, that about 25 minutes adult assembly is required before giving to the child. Many tiny pieces are split up among various plastic bags and picture instructions must be followed to assemble both the toys and the calendar itself. I am an adult who loves assembling kinderegg toys so I don't mind, but some might. The calendar itself is a large box, the actual size of the packaging. Dividers are folded to create cubbyholes inside the main box, and one places the toys as per the images, closes the box front with enclosed tapes. Each day the child can open a numbered door to reveal a different toy or toys. Usually there is one large item or multiple tiny ones. The calendar box is incredibly sturdy and we will keep it for storage.
There is also a background, which is folded and put together via tabs and slots (which unfortunately do not necessarily stay together: this could be improved) to form a city scape with roads, sidewalks, 3D tree, opening 2nd floor window (for the robbery), and 3D jail with opening door. The cardboard of this is unfortunately flimsier than the box packaging, but still works well.
Interestingly, the items are revealed in an order that suggests a narrative: the robber first, then his trade tools, a case with gold coins, then a foot police, his police dog, his radio and gun, another police, a getaway bicycle, a police motorcycle, road blocking items, and finally at the end, jail furnishings! Large and small items alternate. Items included: 3 characters, bicycle, motorcycle, grapplinghook and rope, crowbar, keys, briefcase, chest and gold coins, 2 radios, 2 guns, billyclub street lamp with wanted poster, police hats, flashlight, woolen hat, motorcycle helmet, police dog and leash, cat, 3 rats, crow, garbage can with wheels, road barriers, traffic cones, handcuffs, jail cot, jail toilet and sink, toothbrush and toothpaste, cup and plate (and probably other small items I forgot)... enough to play with for hours. All very solid classic Playmobil.
My four year old loves it, and I think we'll make this a tradition: next year using it for an advent calendar instead of as a gift we opened all at once. Highly recommended, both for quality, play value and price. BTW we got this on sale after Dec 1.

LEGO City Advent Calendar 2006 Review

LEGO City Advent Calendar 2006
Average Reviews:

If you were too late to order this hot item, don't feel bad. We got one early, because we've enjoyed it so much in previous years. Sadly, it is not nearly as delightful this year. As of today - the 20th - there is not one thing about it that makes you think of Christmas. My son has given up even bothering to open the little doors every day. All of the figures and mini-models are aboout construction workers and construction equipment. Which would be fine if we hadn't ordered something we thought was supposed to be related to Christmas.
I'm not expecting little Baby Jesus minifigs or anything, but at least a snowman would be nice!
The description and photos make you think there are seasonal things such as fireplaces, christmas trees, etc. But so far our Lego City Minifigs have not begun preparing for the holidays. They don't even have a snow-blower amongst all their construction equipment! Working hard in the City is all well and good, but really. It's about as festive as waiting in line at the airport on Christmas eve. Er, no, not even that much!

My Little Pony "Ponyville" Advent Calendar Review

Bought this calendar for my daughter because son had Lego calendar and was trying to find a like "girl" calendar. The calendar was cute, but don't expect a lot of ponies - it comes with only 3, and the 3rd one was on the last day. Lots of hats, cups, shoes, plates, food and other accessory items the rest of the days. Overall it served its purpose and I was satisfied.

We used to have this kind of calendar when I was a kid, and it really heighten our anticipation of X-mas, and possibly instilled a nascent sense of calendric time reckoning, so I wanted our daughter to have the same experience. She seems to be enjoying just as much as I once did. The calendar is well-constructed. Next year we may get one with chocolates inside.

Playmobil Advent Calendar, Unicorn Paradise by Playmobil Review

Playmobil Advent Calendar, Unicorn Paradise by Playmobil

This set contains 1) all the plastic figures and pieces, 2) the cardboard backdrop set, and 3)the cardboard hanging poster with the 25 boxes that attach to it. Before the very first use you must assemble the boxes. It was not very hard but keep in mind you will have to do it (about 45 minutes). I store it each year with the boxes "preloaded" for the next year when I take it apart after Christmas and it all fits in the original box that way and there's practically no set up time after that first time. My daughter loves playing with this set throughout December and she even uses other Playmobil stuff with it. I also have the Woodland Christmas Advent calendar for my animal-loving child and these complement each other well (about the same size and the cardboard posters match in size and shape). This is WAY better than the Barbie or My Little Pony ones and can be used over and over again. HIGHLY recommend!!!

LEGO? City Advent Calendar 2824 Review

LEGO? City Advent Calendar 2824

For the past couple of years every holiday season we have picked up a couple of these calendars for family and friends. All the kids enjoy the countdown to Christmas by opening up a toy every day starting the 1st of December. The tough part is trying to hold the kids back from opening up the rest of the gifts in advance. We try to save one calendar every year for our own lego collection too. Caveat: For those on the fence we recommend getting these early because the prices increase significantly around the beginning of December.
