Playmobil Advent Calendar: Xmas in Forest Review

Playmobil Advent Calendar: Xmas in Forest
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Every year's Playmobil Advent Calendar is a treat. The calendar basically has two parts, both revolving around 24 little playmobile animals, Santas, presents, and other Christmas-oriented toys: (1) a stand-up sheet to which parents attach 24 little boxes, one for each day of December until Christmas, and (2) a little tableau, where the kids can set up the toys as they open them. Each day, the kids get to open a box and place the toy on the tableau, setting up a scene that will be finished by Christmas Eve.

The 2008 calendar, "Christmas in the Forest," is my favorite yet. Santa is bringing presents (mostly food) to the animals of the forest, so the set has a bunch of mother and baby animals, together with Santa, a sled, and plenty of delicious treats. Playmobil did a great job with this year's calendar. If you don't have one yet, go get one and catch up!

Playmobil Rabbit Pen Review

We purchased a ton of these Playmobil extra Toys and small sets and put them in a "Prize Bag" for my daughter to "go on the potty"! She didn't have any interest in potty training at age 3, until we had these toys for her to choose from. It worked!! Not only did she potty train very quickly, but she had a whole city of playmobil to build and use her imagination! At age 5, she had not outgrown any of the playmobil. Great purchase, and I think it will last for many years to come!

Playmobil Blackbeard's Pirate Ship Review

Playmobil Blackbeard's Pirate Ship
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I thought my mom was crazy when our six year old son opened her Christmas present to him last year - a very elaborate pirate ship fully stocked with all kinds of tiny accessories and detailed pieces. I mean, little pirate men complete with separate swords, hats, pistols, lanterns, treasure map...plastic bits of the sort that will get lost in the carpet or swallowed at the bottom of the pit we call a toy box; gee, a parent's dream come true.
So I spent over an hour the next day assembling the ship. It may not take everybody that long, but I wanted the little stickers to line up perfectly and all that. Everything went together beautifully to form a handsome, well-crafted ship with just the right amount of detailing. Sensible and durable plastic makes up most of it, except for the string that winds up and ties to the anchor. Still, this was not the babyish stuff that he was used to playing with before, but a real treasure of the kind that invites kids to use their imaginations and really play.
A few months had it sitting on its own shelf in the closet, and then suddenly one day our kid seemed to take notice of his pirate ship. It has become the hands down favorite toy ever since, played with every day, with friends or alone. It has inspired a new interest in pirates and pirating history, to the tune of a few discovery books on the subject and planning our next birthday party around a pirate theme. We have even added pirates and cannons to the set so that they could have better adventure possibilities.
Sure, a few of the tiny things have been lost along the way. Mostly though, I think this has taught our son to take better account and care of his things. A strict rule of all pirate pieces gathered and put away on the pirate ship every night before bed has helped a great deal to keep them off the carpet and out of the toy pit.
Playmobil is fabulous. I foresee birthdays and Christmases with more of the pirate collection and even the playmobil Treasure Island as gifts. Blackbeard's pirate ship is a proven winner in our family and I would recommend it to any parent as a quality toy (and one that has bought me many peaceful hours of good kids playing time, besides!).

Playmobil Zoo Set Review

Playmobil Zoo Set

Thank god I didn't put off opening the box until Christmas eve. I just spent the better part of 3 hours assembling all the "big" parts of this thing. My wife or the kids can do all the little stuff later. There are a ton of little fasteners that need to be assembled so don't expect to put this together with a kid climbing all over you wanting to get started playing.
That complaint aside, it looks like this thing will be a blast for kids in the 4-6 year old range (and maybe beyond). Lots of little pieces though so watch it if you also have a baby in the house.

Playmobil Roman Soldiers Review

Playmobil Roman Soldiers

My son wanted Roman soldiers for his birthday similar to the "little green soldiers"...couldn't find them anywhere but found these. All three of my boys (ages 6-9) play with these and love them. I don't think they've been "put up" since we got them in September! We bought the ship that goes with them and now of course he wants the arena for Christmas. I've had to brush up on my history just to answer questions about the Roman empire and Roman army. All in all a great toy, they're a bit of a pain because the smaller parts get separated from the soldiers, however all pieces have proven to be very durable.

Playmobil Police Christmas Advent Calendar Review

Playmobil Police Christmas Advent Calendar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought this Police Advent Calendar last night when shopping for a Playmobil Police Motorcyclist, and this entire set was fifty cents more!!! Excellent value for the price, that I would recommend to anyone, looking for an advent calendar, or just as a play set anytime of the year. It says "Playmobil Police Christmas" but be warned that there is absolutely nothing seasonal about this set, unlike "Christmas in the Park" or "Christmas in the Forest", so there is no educational value about the season.
However, it is a fully rounded playset that has enough characters and details to keep your child engaged for hours or years.
It says on the back of the box, which some may not notice, that about 25 minutes adult assembly is required before giving to the child. Many tiny pieces are split up among various plastic bags and picture instructions must be followed to assemble both the toys and the calendar itself. I am an adult who loves assembling kinderegg toys so I don't mind, but some might. The calendar itself is a large box, the actual size of the packaging. Dividers are folded to create cubbyholes inside the main box, and one places the toys as per the images, closes the box front with enclosed tapes. Each day the child can open a numbered door to reveal a different toy or toys. Usually there is one large item or multiple tiny ones. The calendar box is incredibly sturdy and we will keep it for storage.
There is also a background, which is folded and put together via tabs and slots (which unfortunately do not necessarily stay together: this could be improved) to form a city scape with roads, sidewalks, 3D tree, opening 2nd floor window (for the robbery), and 3D jail with opening door. The cardboard of this is unfortunately flimsier than the box packaging, but still works well.
Interestingly, the items are revealed in an order that suggests a narrative: the robber first, then his trade tools, a case with gold coins, then a foot police, his police dog, his radio and gun, another police, a getaway bicycle, a police motorcycle, road blocking items, and finally at the end, jail furnishings! Large and small items alternate. Items included: 3 characters, bicycle, motorcycle, grapplinghook and rope, crowbar, keys, briefcase, chest and gold coins, 2 radios, 2 guns, billyclub street lamp with wanted poster, police hats, flashlight, woolen hat, motorcycle helmet, police dog and leash, cat, 3 rats, crow, garbage can with wheels, road barriers, traffic cones, handcuffs, jail cot, jail toilet and sink, toothbrush and toothpaste, cup and plate (and probably other small items I forgot)... enough to play with for hours. All very solid classic Playmobil.
My four year old loves it, and I think we'll make this a tradition: next year using it for an advent calendar instead of as a gift we opened all at once. Highly recommended, both for quality, play value and price. BTW we got this on sale after Dec 1.

Playmobil Nativity Set Review

Playmobil Nativity Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this several ( 5 ?) years ago for my daughter and two more sets for my nephews.
Every December, we take it out and it gets put out and played with more than any other indoor toy during the month of December. All three chidren enjoy it so much, I also bought the Playmobil Advent Christmas scene that is designed to hang like an Advent calender with a Nativity scene set up separately for play. Small boxes hang on the cardboard calendar, and each box holds a toy that can be played with . Some of the toys are very small ( tiny mice) , and small children should be supervised with these pieces. My daughter and her cousins are all 9 years old. They still play with it and enjoy creating and playing with the Nativity. It is very durable.

Playmobil Skate Park With Half Pipe Review

Playmobil has great products. My son who is 7 was excited to receive this "cool" toy. It is one of his favorite Christmas gifts. His 5 year old brother also likes to play with it. They like setting up the kids with their helmets, skateboards, and other accessories and then pretend playing with them doing tricks.
As a parent, this toy was easy to put together and seems quite durable. You can easily take the billboard and lights down and pull off the ramps to fit into a small-medium size storage bin (always a plus.)

Playmobil 4656 Mermaid Review

Playmobil 4656 Mermaid

Got this for my 4 yr old daughter for Christmas. She loved it. As with all Playmobil; great quality. Currently, this page is listing the item at 49 dollars; not sure why. I paid under 4 for it and it is a nice addition to her Playmobil collection. The shell does in fact open which my daughter likes, and the little tiny shells you see in the display photo are also included which are very very tiny. Also another plus for my daughter. I dont know of a set that the Mermaid goes with but that is why it is part of their "extras" line. Definitly a nice gift to give for any occasion or a nice stocking stuffer for Christmas.

I hope Playmobil does not discontinue this line of toys the Fairy Tales sets! They are getting harder to purchase Playmobil does not sell them on the website anymore.
We have Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel and Snow White and they are excellent pretend toys!
Easy to set up and each containing the story booklet in few european languages it's a great educational toy, the kids get to enact the story, while reading it! If you get adventurous you can try the Spanish or French version, great introduction to foreign languages storytelling.
You get the Playmobil quality toys with the bonus of storytelling how can you go wrong!!!
My kids love them, they make great gifts at reasonable price.
If you are looking for hours of fun without having to deal with silly noises and change of batteries, try one of these!

Playmobil King's Knight Review

Playmobil King's Knight
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been buying my son Ancient Egyptian and Roman-themed Playmobil sets, so moving on to the knights and crusaders sets has come quite naturally. I recently purchased this Crusader foot soldier along with two packs of the Crusader knight set (Playmobil toy 5825). Unfortunately, Playmobil Crusader toy 4625 seems to be unavailable, thus limiting one's choices in raising an army that consists of diverse units. Nevertheless, despite this shortage of cross wearing knights there is a plethora of non-cross wearing knights that will supplement your Crusading army nicely. In seeking Arab adversaries, there seems to be only one available: The Arab foot soldier (Playmobil toy 4691, a.k.a "The Arabian Warrior"). As a result, one may add several of these lonely soldiers to build an army and/or add a mounted archer, Playmobil toy 4248 (a.k.a."Robber with Horse"), that fits in nicely even though it is from the Ancient Egyptian setting. I grew up with Playmobil toys and I am now introducing my son to the toys that brought me so much joy. In short, they are amazing; the quality, the detail, and the educational value are all excellent. Off to war...

Playmobil Advent Calendar: Pirates Review

Playmobil Advent Calendar: Pirates
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Last Christmas was the first year our daughter was old enough to handle herself around the many small pieces that come with the all things Playmobil. So, while I have no basis for comparison, I will say that we were really pleased with this Advent calendar.
Normally, I think I'd agree with other reviewers that it's kind of odd not having a Christmas theme. Of course, we have the Nativity scene to that end. For us, the release of the pirate calendar happened to coincide with a rabid love of anything pirate on our daughter's part, and so it was totally appropriate.
The parts that came with this set, some less exciting that others, are still being played with almost a year later, and somehow that almost seems to matter more than the individual daily components. I can't begin to count the number of hours she spent tallying her gold coins, she kinda reminded us of Scrooge.
I think the long-term play value of this Advent calender has been awesome, and that the thrill of opening a little box each day, no matter what it contains, is a big deal for any kid. I would have loved this as a child, and we will be buying another this year when Christmas comes around.

Viking Longboat Review

Viking Longboat
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
At $150, this Viking ship is now a collector's item!
This Viking ship was put out two years ago and is no longer sold! You may be able to strike gold and find it at small out of the way toy stores in small towns, or on e-bay, or buy it here. However I'm sure that Playmobil will release this ship again some day, but in a different trim. So this one will be a collector's item.
This is part of 2006's(?) Viking line, and it's a great ship. It looks just the part and is well engineered. It has space for 6 Vikings at the oars, a steersman and a chief. The oarsmen grip the oars tightly and are gripped at the seats so they won't easily fall out. You can even hook the shields to the sides. And it has an attachment point for the Playmobil propeller underneath so it can move!
It's sturdy and easy to put together and only has a single mast and sail, which means less set up for the younger kids, unlike some of the more complicated pirate ships. When put together it's beautiful to look at and has great play value. A picture is worth a thousand words, so just look at the picture, how can you not love it?! Any kids or adult who has ever dreamed of owning a Viking ship can now own one. You can add on extra Vikings and go a-plundering!
A little primer on Playmobil if you don't know what they are.
1) All Playmobil products are of the highest quality. Everything is well made, thought out and designed by this great German company which has been popular in Europe for decades but only relatively recently in the US. Playmobil is the Mercedes of toy brands.
2) High educational and play value. You want your kids to learn about Romans? Buy them this set. Want them to know about Egyptians? Buy them next year when they get here.
3) Playmobil is not for any child under 7 or so, because most sets have a lot of small parts. But that's part of the fun of it for the older kids, up to 99 years old! You can have a lot of fun customizing your figures. For the younger kids, there's Playmobil 123.
4) The great secret about this ship and Playmobil in general is that there are tons of add ons. You can buy additional Vikings to beef up your army and enemies to fight with. If you have any questions about Playmobil there are several guides, catalogs and forums where you can hang out with like minded people.
5) In conclusion, this is a great product and if you've never had a Playmobil set, it's like being introduced to sugar if you've never had it before. Once you get hooked on Playmobil, you'll won't be able to help buying more Playmobil stuff. And I don't know if that'll be a good thing or not.

Playmobil My Take Along Puppet Theater Review

Playmobil My Take Along Puppet Theater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this take along for my 4.5 year old for Christmas. I couldn't find any reviews but I couldn't resist when I saw it at the kids toy store. The other playmobil sets seemed to have too many small pieces. My son has been pleased with it. He spent some time playing with the little figures. Very nice details. It doesn't have too many small pieces. Just the right amount. This is a great way to introduce children to theater/performance...etc. Also, the story included on the playmobil website is very helpful. It can be downloaded from their website...
The only thing is that the little musical device doesn't have a great sound quality, but that couldn't have been from the batteries I have placed.
Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone age 4 and up. The take along feature is a plus. My son loved the idea of having it as a "suitcase".
