LEGO 50th Anniversary Building Set Review

LEGO 50th Anniversary Building Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This set of 700 basic lego blocks is a good value. This is a nice set for making buildings, but it does not include wheels for making cars. Of the sets out there, this is one of the more colorful sets with two shades of green and two shades of blue blocks. The golden brick is unique, but it is hardly the reason to buy this. The box works fairly well for storage and can fit under the couch when not in use. As is the case in all of these sets, you get a fair number of smaller 1x1 and 1x2 bricks, but for under fourty dollars you get a lot of bricks. It would be nice if they included some wheels, but you might consider looking at lego dot com to add specific pieces that you like. Also, you might consider buying some used pieces (even dating back to the 1970s) from bricklink dot com.

Basic Bricks with Fun Figures - Lego Set 5587 Review

Basic Bricks with Fun Figures - Lego Set 5587
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Basic Bricks with Fun Figures - Lego Set 5587 will provide hours of fun for your child or adult. It has enough Lego's in it to built a average size building a 7 year old would want to build. The drawback with this set is that it has no windows/doors or roof shingles; you have to order these in a separate set. Overall, it was money well spent compared to other toys I've bought my grandson in the past. Lego products do last a very long time. I still have some around from my son who's now 33 years old.Basic Bricks with Fun Figures - Lego Set 5587

I've been building up a Lego collection for my son and found this to be a pretty good purchase. The price per brick is decent, and the set I received had a pretty good distribution of bricks. The only negative was (in my opinion) more 1 x 2 blocks than necessary, and fewer 2 x 4 blocks than I would have liked.

LEGO DUPLO Block-O-Dile Review

LEGO DUPLO Block-O-Dile
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Legos are great toys to begin with, and this one, with its own Crockodile is very cool. The blocks are extra-large versions of Legos for little kids (preschool). The Crock has a flap sweeper on the front that "eats" the Lego blocks when you push the mouth over them. Works for other stuff too (amazing what kids think a Crock will "eat"). Older kids liked it, too. The neighbors' 5 year old got a kick out of sweeping up cars and such.

Nanoblock Architecture - Cinderella's Castle (Neuschwanstein Castle) (non-LEGO) Review

Nanoblock Architecture - Cinderella's Castle (Neuschwanstein Castle) (non-LEGO)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been building Legos for years. I was very excited when I heard about Nanoblocks because the idea of doing miniature block designs seemed awesome. Unfortunately, there are two BIG problems with Nanoblocks. First, the blocks do not fit snugly and therefore easily fall apart when putting the structures together. Nanoblocks are a little better than some other Lego imitations (e.g., MegaBlocks), but they are far inferior to Legos. Second, the instructions are very difficult to follow. The pictures are too small, and the way you're supposed to assemble the structures in not intuitive. Assembling this Castle was more difficult (and therefore less fun) than Lego sets, even the ones that are recommended for kids over age 16.

K'Nex: Fun Set 2 10-Model Building Set Review

K'Nex: Fun Set 2 10-Model Building Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The instruction booklet is very detailed and comes in several languages. There are three levels for the models to build and they range from friendly, moderate to greater challenge. My son has made nine of these models.
The rods and connectors snap into one another and are built according to the color-coded instructions. Joel Glickman is the inventor of K'Nex and has an easy to understand format in the directions, plus you do not need to read much to follow the diagrams. This set is ideal for the beginner who is new to this building system. My son was familiar with this from watching commercials.
The pieces have names, rods, connectors, spacers and flexi-rods. The connectors are blue and purple, and nice shades. The instructions are numbered for each step to follow along. The flexi-rods are orange with the spaces being blue and silver.
Scissors, hang glider, lawn mower, spy plane, canoe, cell phone, space shuttle, fly & swatter, clawing crab and the front-end loader.
There are very small round pieces that are dangerous to have around if there are smaller children or pets in the home. This might be best utilized on a table and when not in use place all loose pieces back in case.
My son has spent many hours this past month exploring with these models and making things that are not even listed and tells me all the time how he is using his imagination.
The models are able to stand in an upright position, they can move and bend in positions and they come in various sizes and portable.

LEGO Batman - The Batwing: The Joker's Aerial Assault Review

LEGO Batman - The Batwing: The Joker's Aerial Assault
Average Reviews:

My 8-year-old son really wanted this specific set for his birthday. Since all Lego Batman sets were out-of-production I had to pay more than the original manufacturer's price. Since I purchased the product in November 2008 the price has risen even higher.
My son was able to build the set by himself and really enjoys playing with it. He likes the the way it launches the missle. I like that it comes with a base so that it an be stored vertically (takes up less shelf space).

Stop the Joker and save Gotham City! Batman's sleek Batwing streaks through the skies as he tries to foil the Joker's scheme to drop laughing gas on the whole city. Lego Track Master Legos 5934 Review

Lego Track Master Legos 5934
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great LEGO set, no matter who you are buying it for. As an AFOL (Adult Fan Of LEGO), I find the set to be very enjoyable (even though it is recommended for ages 6-12).
I've always enjoyed the 'special' LEGO pieces, especially the accessories for the mini-figures. This set includes two mini-figs, a rough looking adventurer and a spectacled, suspender-wearing professor. The accessories include a shovel, a rifle, a hammer, a wrench, a pair of binoculars, a cup, and a pot. The adventurer mini-fig wears a cowboy hat and the professor wears a jungle safari type of hat.
The vehicle featured in the instructions (the Track Master) is very cool. The tank-like treads are nifty and the windshield is one of the coolest I've seen in any set. It looks dirty except for where windshield wipers have cleaned it and there is even a crack in the corner.
Also included in the set is a flying dinosaur (a Pteranodon). It is actually the only part of the set that I don't really like, because it is all one color. The eyes aren't even painted black.
LEGO bricks are generally considered to be educational toys simply because of how they allow the imagination to run wild and this set is no exception. Also, aside from the value of building, the instruction booklet includes drawings of different dinosaurs showing their weight (did you know a triceratops weighs about the same as an elephant?), their size, and their speed.
Overall, this is a wonderful set for someone who is already a fan of LEGO and it is also a great set to get someone started with LEGO. It is small enough to carry a reasonable price tag and large enough to allow you to build several things.

Lego's Education 9386 - Doors, Windows, & Roof Tiles Set Review

Lego's Education 9386 - Doors, Windows, and Roof Tiles Set
Average Reviews:

I just received a thank you note from our daughter for the Lego set we sent for our grandsons ages 3 and 6. She wrote that the boys are in "Lego-heaven" and can't get enough of all the choices of parts to build with and scupt. They've made so many things and are always coming up with new ideas to try. Because the set had so many pieces, that was our hope for the boys to be able to make all sorts of things and it appears it was a success. We also sent the doors windows and roof tiles. The set allows the boys to create things rather than try to copy what a box shows something should look like on the preset Lego sets. We think that is far more educational.

LEGO Ultimate Building Set - 405 Pieces (6166) Review

LEGO Ultimate Building Set - 405 Pieces (6166)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this for my children and to relive my days of playing with Legos in the 1970s. The kids really enjoy playing with them. I like this generic collection of mult-purpose bricks better than the sets that are designed to build one unique item. For the price (normally around twenty five dollars), you get a reasonable amount of stuff. On the down side, there are a lot of the smaller bricks (1 x 2 and 1 x 1). After playing with this for a few days I found that my kids wanted plates, bricks (2 x 4 and 2 X 8), and wheels (my son loves to make cars). I went to lego dot com where I was able to buy these specific things separately. Also, if you want to find some odd parts from old sets (even going back to the 1970s) try bricklink dot com. It takes awhile to navigate the site, but you can buy whatever individual pieces you want used.
In summary, buy this set first from Amazon and then go to lego dot com or bricklink dot com to buy wheels, bricks and plates.

LEGO? Bricks & More Deluxe Brick Box 5508 Review

LEGO? Bricks and More Deluxe Brick Box 5508
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My son has spatial dyslexia and enjoys building with legos. He really likes to get the sets, but I find that I do most of the building and he does most of the fretting because he can't see what he needs to do.
So I skipped the sets for Christmas and bought him two large sets of just legos. He opened them and shrugged. We moved them into a large flat rectangular rubbermaid tote and his eyes gleamed. He went onto the sun porch on the wood floor, and went to building. He built cars, rockets, planes, houses and forts for four hours. Add a few minifigures to his lego bucket and I have one contented kid.
This was a terrific decision. Since then friends and family have seen the buckets of legos and have opted for the free play lego sets. It really is worth it. The sets are magnificent, but if your child is like mine and won't dismantle a made lego set this is a great way to put the creative play back in the mix.
My son is 9.

LEGO Designer Tool Set Includes Brick Separator and Ruler Review

LEGO Designer Tool Set Includes Brick Separator and Ruler
Average Reviews:

This tool set is particularly useful if you are building complex structures with lots of different parts, such as mindstorms robots, from building instructions. I bought 4 of them. One for my house, one for my son's, one for my daughter's, and one for a guest speaker at my class (Robotics for Grandparents). The little green lever (separator tool) is more useful for disassembling building models. I paid $5 at ToysRUs.

LEGO? Bricks & More Builders of Tomorrow Set 6177 Review

LEGO? Bricks and More Builders of Tomorrow Set 6177
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This 650 piece set is pretty good. It's all just bricks and seems to have about 3:1 ratio of small 1x4 and 1x2 bricks to 2x2 and 2x3. So if you are looking for the small narrow pieces this set has more of those. Also its just bricks, there's no flat pieces and no wheels or other special pieces. That said, this an ideal supplement for the many Lego games which in my opinion benefit from the smaller pieces. The price is pretty great too.
Hope this helps.

LEGO Basic Bricks #6177 Review

LEGO Basic Bricks #6177
Average Reviews:

What's there to say? Tons of blocks in many sizes and many colors, including some "hard to get" colors (lime green and orange). Unfortunately too many 1x1 and 1x2 bricks and not enough 2x3 and 2x4 bricks in my opinion. As a basic building set this box is not recommended, but if you already have a ton of bricks this is a great addition offering good value for money.
