LEGO Creator: Robo Platoon Review

LEGO Creator: Robo Platoon

This set has provided my kindergarten son hours of fun. (The set says age 6+, but my son is five and has no problem with the small pieces.) He builds the robots, takes them appart, and builds others. The instructions are clear, even for a little guy just learning to read. There are many different models to build, starting easy and working up to more complex. There are also "ideas", pictures of models without instructions to challenge my son after he's done all the others. Most son loses interest in most toys after a few days. But, he's had this set now for several months, and he still enjoys building with it. Best ten bucks I've ever spent for a toy!

Lego Creator Set #7804 : Lizard Review

Lego Creator Set #7804 : Lizard

The Lego Creator series Lizard is a small, bagged set that's used mainly as a giveaway set, though obviously you can buy it separately. It includes enough pieces to assemble a tiny, green lizard with bulging white eyes.
Complexity - The set includes 33 pieces and only took a few minutes to assemble.
Playability - It's a cute little set, but you can't do much with it once it's assembled. I'm pretty sure this one will be stripped for parts the next time we build something green.
As a giveaway, this was a perfectly nice set. It's not something I could see paying more than a couple of bucks for though.

LEGO Ferocious Creatures 5868 Review

LEGO Ferocious Creatures 5868

My 11 year-old son just got this and has had a lot of fun putting together the three variations.
This is a big set, with each creature measuring about a foot and a half long once built.
The pieces are very specific and detailed -- lots of teeth and claws that are unavailable in tubs. The best thing about the Creator series is that there are three models in one which makes it fun for reassembling again and again.
The ability to make moving creatures adds tremendous value. The crocodile has a string-pull mechanism for opening it's mouth. The tail swings back and forth in a snakelike fashion because the tail is hinged at all points. The sea creature also has an open and close mouth and swinging rear fin. The T-Rex is really neat too and it amazes me that all three creatures can be made from the same set of LEGOS.
This is a little tougher to put together because of the moving parts/string mechanisms but if your younger child is good at building and you don't mind helping out a little, I'm sure that 6 or 7 year-olds could build it. My son had no problem at his age.

I almost wish I hadn't had to give it to my nephew. I could easily amuse myself with this thing for a few days, and I'm (allegedly) a grown-up.

I have a nephew who loves Legos and monkeys. This was a great combination. A little pricey for a small toy, but it made a nice gift.
