Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Multi-Activity Table Review

Melissa and Doug Deluxe Wooden Multi-Activity Table
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As the price indicates, this isn't a high-quality table. But, it serves its purpose. We preferred to spend more money on a nice train set, and save some cash by getting a lower-end table. The pros are that it is very roomy and has a storage drawer which accommodates our 130-piece set. The cons are that it is already showing several scuff marks on the white paint, and it's only a month old. It was extremely easy to assemble, and took about 30-45 minutes. Note that it is quite low to the ground. Our two-year-old has to be on his knees to play with it. So, if you're looking for a table that your child can stand at, this one's not for you.

Mega Bloks Thomas Sodor Search and Rescue Review

Mega Bloks Thomas Sodor Search and Rescue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My husband purchased this set for my sons. While it was fun for a few hours the novelty wore off quickly, we have gotten a lot more milage out of the basic Thomas tracks and trains. The tracks are hard to keep attatched to the 'main' red section of the set, and you have to make sure you have the exact supports for the track or it will be unable to attatch to the blue lower section. The Thomas and Harold included are made up of blocks...don't be fooled they come apart. And unless you are really good at keeping up with the blocks you will end up with pieces of Harold and Thomas missing, like their rear ends or faces...not much fun. You are better off with a Thomas take-and-play or a train table and some mega blocks. I don't reccomend this, don't waste your money. Buy a take-and-play or more wooden tracks.

Nilo Multi-Activity Table with FREE Graphic Playmat Review

Nilo Multi-Activity Table with FREE Graphic Playmat
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is much sturdier than the other tables out there, and looks and works with great quality. My older son is 9 and I had bought one for him when he
was 18 mo or so. He used it for five years every day, and its went to my s-i-l who has a toddler and a 5 yr old and is still rock solid.
The melamine works great for playdoh etc. or you can even flip the mat if you don't want to stain up the melamine. The legs and sides are solid
wood, quality, sanded smooth, never a problem with chips, rough edges etc. The other tables you see at walmart, costco etc are way cheaper in feel
and even the pottery barn one is not as solidly built. Nilo has a stained version at their site which looks better in your family room, with french
legs rather than this blocky look, which I plan to purchase for my twin boys first b'day. We used the block mats which they sell with duplos/legos as well.
If you get the caddy plus bin Storage CaddyNilo-Bin Under Table Toy Holder for Nilo Activity Tables
which slide under, the caddy is heavy and hard to lift up, so while your kids can get to the trains in the caddy by themselves,
they can't easily access toys that are under the caddy -- which is a good thing if you don't want a huge mess while your back is turned. If cost
is not the only issue, this is the table to pick and it has hand me down ability...

My grandson really likes this. We use the tunnel more than the train. The tunnel fits over the wooden Thomas tracks, but the engine is too big to fit on the tracks. So the engine sits inside the track watching everyone.

Legos stay put together, these mega block wont stay or click together. I have 2 sets of these Thomas mega blocks and they both have many parts that just dont stay connected no mater how much you play with. SOme parts dont click easliy and the track will not stay put no matter what i do on either set i have.
I need a medication after working with these each time. It tried again today for 35 min and nothing stays together, I click one and the other track pops. I HATE THIS THING!!
I have used legos since I was a kid and still build things with regular lego just fine.

Lego Duplo 3353 Thomas and Friends Train Set - Spencer and Sir Topham Hatt Review

Lego Duplo 3353 Thomas and Friends Train Set - Spencer and Sir Topham Hatt
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We got the Thomas the Tank Duplo starter set for our two and a half year old son at Christmas. He enjoyed it so much we decided to get the Spencer set too. The chunky pieces are perfect for small hands. Our son enjoys taking the trains apart and putting them back together. He and his dad have lots of fun playing trains together. It's a little on the expensive side but it's paid itself off in entertainment value. One snag - the Spencer kit does not contain an instruction booklet so you are forced to keep the box so that you know how to put all the components together. That's a bit of a nuisance.

LEGO Duplo Thomas at Morgan's Mine (5546) Review

LEGO Duplo Thomas at Morgan's Mine (5546)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My mom bought this for my 3 year old and we were surprised by how much it was compared to what is was. The top of the tunnel only has a place for one lego piece (it has 4 circles in a square) and so when you stack legos on it, they are wobbly. There are no other places on the tunnel to stack legos. Thomas seems to fall apart quite easily and makes for easy frustration for little kids. I wouldn't recommend this toy for your Thomas lover. Maybe if it was about $10-$15 less.

Mega Bloks 2-in-1 Buildable Thomas
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We got this set for my 3yr old requested it for Christmas. Its fun he loves it, spends time playing with it a lot. But dont mix it up to much with other sets or its hard to determine whats with what set. so rebuilding can be hard. So I keep them in a seperate small plastic bin or bag as I do with most sets like this. The only other thing is only my own pet peeve but my son will want to go back and forth between the train and the station thus having to rebuild since he is so young he cant do it all on his own. But hey if thats the only bad thing I can think of thats pretty good right? ;) at his age its not a toy he can play with by himself.

LEGO DUPLO Thomas & Friends - Cargo-Loading Cranky Review

LEGO DUPLO Thomas and Friends - Cargo-Loading Cranky
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have found that Lego Cranky is a nice addition to our Island of Sodor. Besides having the advantage of being much cheaper than many of the other Crankies, he works with the rest of the Lego Steamies, and the other Thomas rail lines, as well.
Pros:
--is a more complicated assemblage than some of the other Lego Thomas and Friends additions and so fills that need for a challenge
--he's big and fun
--the kit comes with cargo and those all-so-useful troublesome trucks
--this Cranky has a nice pulley system (string with a hook). The hook has an end-piece which fits a standard Duplo block and the cargo included in the kit
--Cranky also rotates. It has a super large rotating block unit
Cons:
--Cranky has a more complicated assemblage that might be too challenging for the very young
--it is sometimes difficult to align the 'nubs' on the rotating unit to fit correctly
Five Stars. Lego Cranky is just a lot of fun. The kit comes with a few pieces of track, Cranky, cargo, two troublesome trucks and more. The pieces work with the standard Duplo Lego blocks so there is lots of opportunity to build. Very affordable which you will know if you have checked out the other big Crankies.

Don't be fooled by the name. Cranky is all smiles at the dock as he loads the Troublesome Trucks. And why wouldn't he be' He gets the job done quickly and barely breaks a sweat, thanks to his big, strong hook. See how fast you can get him to load the trucks. Set includes two tracks, a troublesome truck and two pieces of cargo. Cranky moves from side to side and the pulley moves up and down. Contains 34 pieces.

Lego Duplo Trains 3774: Bridge Review

Lego Duplo Trains 3774: Bridge
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OK, others provided reviews of the fun. I want to provide additional useful information in my review.
First, I selected the LEGO Duplo trains for our son because they are very high quality and not as expensive as other wooden push trains. And of course, they work with everything else that is LEGO, making the value so much greater. He can mix and match pieces from all his other LEGO Duplo stuff.
The bridge looks impressive and it is big for a toddler toy. Be sure you have enough track and floor space to make this work well for you. If you only buy this bridge and a Duplo train set, you may not have enough track.
Consider buying several boxes of Duplo 2734 straight track and 2735 curved track to add to what you have with a Duplo 5609 Deluxe train set.
You can also use any of the push trains (esp. Thomas and Friends series while you can find them) with this bridge.
The bridge is designed with cogs in the 'rails' (really wheel gutters) so that the motorized Duplo engine can climb the bridge approach without slipping.
The educational benefit for this bridge is primarily two things I've observed:
learning to assemble a complex structure by following the illustrations on the box, and learning about clearances for trains going under the bridge or over the bridge through the plastic girder truss structure.
The illustration on the cover shows every individual piece (separate and assembled in three configurations) so that you can encourage your young child to carefully check the picture to figure out how to assemble it. It's not obvious, but it's not any harder than any other LEGO Duplo item.
If you have enough track to allow the train to pass under the bride as well as over it, then your child can learn about oversized loads on the freight cars and what will fit and what won't. This is play, but it is educational play in my view, that makes this kind of toy worth the money. If you can't acquire it at retail prices then you may need to pay a premium. These are hard to find. I got mine right here at Amazon. (I can't offer advice on the value per dollar, just on the toy itself in the context of LEGO Duplo trains.)
Advice: don't lose the box -- the illustration is useful for assembly.
Keep the pieces for this bridge segregated from the rest of the train set when put away. I use a ziplock bag to put the small blocks in, and the large pieces go in the box. If all the pieces get mingled with every other set, then it won't be likely that the bridge will assemble as illustrated. Your child can always substitute different colors and shapes to get the required lift, but the blocks that come are perfect and unique for this purpose.

Hit Toys - Thomas at Tidmouth Sheds Review

Hit Toys - Thomas at Tidmouth Sheds
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just purchased this toy for my younger sons 4th birthday because he always wanted me to build Tidmouth Sheds out of Legos. Well, I read the reviews, bought some Super Glue and ordered it anyway. My kids were so excited when it arrived. I took a deep breath and started the assembly. I PUT IT TOGETHER IN 7 MIN with NO problems and NO glue (the directions said it would take 30 min). Yes, I'm mechanically inclined. I followed the directions, it snapped together perfectly and hasn't fallen apart once. I have two boys (8 and 4) and even with their rough play all has been well.
The tracks are sturdy, chunky plastic and connect easily. The roundtable moves smoothly with little hands. The shed doors never fell off, they are connected well. The bridge is simple to assemble. The remote control is chunky as well and is easy to hold. The buttons are in just the right place so it's not awkward to handle. The only music that plays is the Thomas melody when your child presses the button on the remote. The other button is the trains whistle. The face changing is easy to turn on or off with a switch of a button under certain tracks. Occasionally the face will not change completely after rolling over the special tracks (looks creepy) but easy to fix. Be well stocked in AAA batteries (takes 6 total). All of our motorized trains work fine on this track. The directions say ONLY PICK UP BY TURNTABLE not by the roof. I plan to never take the shed down, but just store the turntable and shed in tact.
You may wish to order the Expansion Pack for more fun. If you already own the old blue tracks be sure to guard the two Special Connector peices that are included.
I feel GREAT about this purchase.

All aboard for adventure! Thomas the Tank Engine always starts his day at the Tidmouth Shed on Sodor Island. But where he goes from there is now up to the imaginations and fingertips of young engineers. This Thomas at Tidmouth Sheds set is a large remote control track built with the technology of other Thomas & Friends TrackMaster sets. Kids use the controller to move Thomas forward or backward around the track that includes a bridge, tunnel, and the famous shed yard. Kids can also play cool sound effects like hissing steam, train whistles and the Thomas & Friends theme song that emit from the controller.

As Thomas is guided around the track, his engine chugs and he says things like "I think I'll go for a ride" or "I keep whistling, don't I?" His facial expressions even change between surprise and a big smile as he is suddenly stopped, reversed, led through the mountain tunnel, and more. When it's time for bed a twist of the turntable at Tidmouth Sheds allows Thomas to return home. The shed doors open and close as the big blue engine enters or exits. Whether acting out scenes from their favorite Thomas & Friends shows or dreaming up their own inventive journeys, Tidmouth Sheds makes it easy for child conductors to put their story in motion.

My 2 year old daughter is so into Thomas & Friends right now. We bought this track & the circle track with the bridge & water tower (and we connected them). We play with this thing all day. She loves to connect all the engines & freight cars and send them snaking around the track. I rated the track as educational because she has learned which cars are engines, baggage, freight etc. She loves to line them up and count them. It's also great for memory. She knows the names of all the different engines.

LEGO Duplo Thomas & Friends - Percy at the Water Tower Review

LEGO Duplo Thomas and Friends - Percy at the Water Tower
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You get a decent vehicle and water tower prop for the money, but you must know you need to purchase the larger Thomas set, which comes with a full set of track, or the deluxe Thomas set (the priciest one with the tunnel and bridge). On it's own, you only get a section of track and can't use it as a real train on it's tracks. I've seen the straight tracks pieces sold individually in the Lego City line, which are compatible, but you won't be able to connect them fully without curved track from the Thomas set. I am not sure if there are curved track available from the Lego City line.

I loved shrinky dinks when I was a kid so I thought that this would be a fun project for me to do with my kids. Plus we enjoy holiday decorating and this can be put up year after year. The kids had fun coloring all of the decorations but I recommend this for kids old enough to cut because it is alot of cutting out. Also, they shrink up really small so next year when we have a new baby in the house, it will definitely be put on a high shelf.
