(More customer reviews)I have seen in many reviews of Mega Bloks products, that people think mega bloks inferior to Legos in durability. That isn't so simply the truth. Mega Bloks pieces are weaker than Legos, (tiny faults on slightly inferior plastic is to blame) however, the structure as a whole ends up more cohesive than most Lego sets. the first day my Hawk was complete, I dropped it from from my bed, with lots of swearing on my part until...I picked it up to inspect the damage...it was fine. Couldn't have done that with a Lego set unless I built it myself. Mega Bloks also end up more detailed. They seem more willing to experiment with detail more...All in all, Legos are great for kids, who tend to be little brutes on accident, (haven't quite got the hand eye coordination of you and I) but Mega Bloks are great for models. Just take it easy 'til it's finished, alright?

(More customer reviews)These blocks look like the perfect set - 100-pieces, stickers, a car, a few unique pieces (leaves, flowers), etc., all for a reasonable price. There is just one major problem! They fit together so loosely that the things you create just fall apart. Don't waste your money!
Update: Keep them for a few months and over time they fit together fine. Not sure if they shrink, or get a little dirt build-up or what, but eventually they worked!

Mega Bloks Thomas Cranky the Crane Review

(More customer reviews)My 2.5yo son is a huge fan of Thomas and Duplos. He already had a good collection of Duplos and the little Mega Bloks Thomas engine, and I bought this set so Thomas would have a friend and some tracks to run on. He absolutely loves the crane and Salty, and the whole set is a really fun addition to his Duplo play. Reviews of other of these sets often criticize the durability, and it's true that the tracks and supports don't stay together fantastically well, so elaborate track layouts aren't really an option. This isn't a substitute for a set of wooden tracks or Take-Along sets, but you don't expect Duplos to stay together forever anyway, right? :) I'm going to buy one more set to have a few more track pieces and vehicles. Lots of fun, totally compatible with Duplos, overall a great purchase.

Mega Bloks Halo UNSC Warthog Review

(More customer reviews)I originally bought this for the machine gun, but it actually turned out to be a cool model, with big rubber tires, a solid feel and nice weight. Unfortunately, it suffers from three minor design flaws.
1) The front hooks have no solid connection, so they will fall off.
2) The gun mount is about 1 plate too low, and will not swivel unless raised. This requires the platform for the figure to also be raised.
3) The windshield and connection to the crossbar seem to be slightly off in many sets. This causes the front end to fall apart under the stress of attaching it. I admit to giving up in frustration twice before coming back to finish the model using a few basic tricks to increase clutch. The fit is still not perfect, but the Warthog is now quite solid and can handle being rolled over 1/2" rounded obstacles and crashed into walls with moderate force (minus the hooks) without breaking apart.
The Covenant Turret isn't anything to write home about, but includes some interesting pieces like the trans-blue rods and 4-way connectors that have already proven invaluable in other builds.
The UNSC figures are IMO excellent for their size and offer a great deal of pose-ability. At first , I didn't care for the Covenant Elite, but, once again, I've since found many uses for the unusual parts.
I gave this an educational rating of 5 because I feel that the challenge of correcting the flaws is an excellent learning experience for older children. Younger children and those with short attention spans will need adult assistance with this toy.
I knocked two stars off durability due to the issues with the front end.

Mega Bloks Yo Gabba Gabba Plex's Tour Buggy Review

(More customer reviews)I got this for my 3 year old son. But I think my 4 year old daughter likes it better. It is easy enough for her to put it together just by following the picture directions. I don't like that there are so many pieces, but that is my own personal pet peeve. This is one of the better Yo Gabba Gabba toys I've bought for my kiddos. I might even try the other Mega Block Yo Gabba Gabba accompanying items.

Mega Bloks Probuilder Ford GT Review

(More customer reviews)I am a Ford fanatic and a general Car buff. I'd love to see bricksets to build/modify the great muscle cars. When I saw this kit, I had to have one. GT40s are one of my favorites and this is the modern version of a 40.
I was initally quite impressed with the assembly. The bricks fit together very well - except for the chrome 1x1 "buttons", they only want to pop-off - and the vehicle is "tight". The quality-control on these bricks is very good. Megablok is running just behind Lego in that regard with about 98% of their brick.
However, the way the doors attach to this model is a mess. The feeble little prongs that are supposed to fit into holes in the rocker and upper jam do not work well. You have to have the car assembled very tightly to even have a ghost of a chance. My car is very tight and the doors would still wiggle loose if a child actually really played with it.
So much of the vehicle is really big preformed panels that all you can really build with this is a Ford GT. Reuse is pretty much limited to everything under the shell.
The vehicle itself is impressively large - so big it may be hard to find a spot to just "display it" if that is your intention.
On the whole, if someone just wants a GT for display purposes, get them a die-cast model.
A young child playing with this model might be very frustated by how the doors fall off every 5 minutes while playing with it.
It looks like Megabloks intends this vehicle to be the begining of a line of performance models. I hope that they pay a little more attention in the future to playability options. It wouldn't have been too hard to engineer a door-mounting technique that would work better than what this car has.

All of the blocks are sturdy and interchangeable, so my daughter builds the castle into a massive tower or anything she wants. The blocks are different sizes, shapes, and colors - no more simple squares. The set comes with Cinderella and an adorable horse. We also bought the add-on set with another Cinderella, plus Belle and Ariel. Any toy that encourages imaginative play is a hit with me!

Mega Bloks Thomas Sodor Search and Rescue Review

While it was fun for a few hours the novelty wore off quickly, we have gotten a lot more milage out of the basic Thomas tracks and trains. The tracks are hard to keep attatched to the 'main' red section of the set, and you have to make sure you have the exact supports for the track or it will be unable to attatch to the blue lower section. The Thomas and Harold included are made up of blocks...don't be fooled they come apart. And unless you are really good at keeping up with the blocks you will end up with pieces of Harold and Thomas missing, like their rear ends or faces...not much fun. You are better off with a Thomas take-and-play or a train table and some mega blocks. I don't reccomend this, don't waste your money. Buy a take-and-play or more wooden tracks.

Mega Bloks CAT Articulated Dump Truck Review

(More customer reviews)The MEGA BLOKS CAT 7801 Articulated Dump Truck is pretty good, but I notice defects in the design.First the good: along with the other construction CAT series vehicles, this one is a lot of fun for 3YO and up. It is compatible with LEGO Duplo bricks, but has more details than the typical Duplo vehicle. It has its own detachable engine (plastic molding, not a working motor) and engine compartment hood that opens up for access. There is a wrench that fits the wheel hubs and other parts, and this can be fun to perform pretend service on the vehicle.
Weakness: the overall vehicle is not rugged enough to be used in actual dirt or sand without making it a real mess with effect on the moving parts. The dump mechanism is a weakness because the rear hinge is too weak and comes apart too easily. The simulated hydraulic lifters for the dump are fun to look at, but may not be strong enough to stand up to rough play-use as a dump truck for actual dirt.
For indoor use, with other vehicles and things, this is worthy. My son has the Mega Bloks CAT 614 Material Hauler and that truck set gets more play time and is sturdier than the CAT 7801 dump truck.
I do like the concept and the accessories. It looks just the same as the articulated dump trucks he has seen in several DVDs including the Road Construction Ahead 2 (by Little Hardhats) DVD.
This dump truck is a good one for a child that enjoys playing with LEGO Duplo construction toys indoors, but this is not as rugged as I think it should be to get used in dirt.
Another weakness is the articulated joint that connects the cab with the dump trailer. This is a great concept, and it looks and functions just fine, but is not quite the best engineering for tougher play such as being tossed into a toy bin. The way the joint connects, the cab can hit the dump body and the center of the truck seems to sag a bit too much in normal use. But the truck rolls very well across a smooth floor, and the soft rubber tires are very quiet and look great.
Dump trucks are very important for most play activities, and he does like it.
LEGO Duplo now has a construction dump truck: LEGO Duplo Dump Truck 5651 that is also fun, but completely different than this articulated dump truck.

At 3 years old he cannot put the pieces together and obviously can't read the directions, but with help from mom we assembled it. It kept his attention for just a few minutes. There isn't much to it and the pieces are separate platforms and such, not connected. Maybe with additional Cars sets it would be more fun...or maybe better for 4-6 year olds. Not much substance for $35.

Halo Kubricks Series 2 Figures Review

At first view, these figures looked compatible with Lego and they are not. They are too big to play with standard Lego figures and bricks.
The figures are nice and each come with 2 sub-machine guns and a battle rifle. We loved that.
The only issue we found is that we were expecting to build vehicles and other things with Lego to go with these figures, but they are not compatible.
