What is in the game:
-- a Lego Dice, which has the categories that can be found on the cards (Buildings, Nature, Things, Vehicles) as well as a You Choose and Double (which is like You Choose but you get double points if you guess.
-- a set of 96 cards divided into Easy, Medium and Hard that have pictures on them for different categories that are on the Lego Dice (Buildings, Nature, Things, Vehicles)
-- a building tray to sort the pieces by color
-- an assortment of 338 Lego pieces
How to Play:
The instruction booklet describes several different ways you can play the game, but all basically come down to building what is on the card and having someone else guess what you built. The game itself can be pretty challenging -- even for adults. My 5-year-old was able to play it though, and I think most kids familiar with Legos could play it. The recommended ages are 7 and up.
My Thoughts:
I think it is creative way to play with Legos, and a game that the entire family could participate in -- even my husband enjoyed playing it! I think it definitely encourages imagination and creativity. I also appreciate that Lego provided an assortment of ways to play ... and I'm sure most families could think up their own rules to adapt their own needs. This is only one of a whole new series of games by Lego but we chose this one because it seemed to the most open-ended and best suited to the age of our son. When he gets older, I'm sure we'll be checking into some of the other Lego games that are just being released.

Meatball Madness Review

We saw this displayed in an NYC store and had to wait in line for a turn. It was worth the wait! There are a bunch of meatballs on a grill and the object of the game is to get them through the obstacle course set up. You can configure the obstacle course yourself and change it for variety - another plus! Sounds easy? Well, it's not and learning how to make your meatball go through hoops by using the battery operated scooper that controls the meatball by forced air is a blast.
It is fun for all ages. Kids under the recommended age just enjoy making the meatball stay up with the scooper. The game was fun to play and involved skill (who knew?) in keeping the meatball up in the air, one, and two, getting it through the challenges. This made my boys giggle.
You need to set the game up before playing. You decide where to place the 3 obstacles and I would recommend parents doing this since the obstacle construction is not the sturdiest (when factoring in responsible handling and the low cost, not a deal breaker). For older kids, you could space the obstacles further apart to up the skill level. It's a timed game with the shortest time winning and note that players can only play one at a time. My husband wants two sets for one-on-one challenges.
I would recommend buying this toy for any child given the fun my boys had playing it. I would also recommend it for parties since you could set this up all over the house (or backyard) for lots of laughter and fun.

(More customer reviews)My 6-year old son got this in his Easter Basket this year. He loves this game, and anything Lego. The game is basically like tic-tac-toe, but it is with four pieces in a row. He seemed to quickly understand the game rules and the concept of the joker/wild skeletons and the scary spider. The box is extra sturdy so it can take extra wear with travel. My son takes it with him everywhere and loves to play with anyone, or by himself - rolling the die for two different characters. He's now starting to redesign the game board and pieces to his own liking and creativity. Definitely recommend.

LEGO Make a Match Memory Matching Game Review

(More customer reviews)My oldest son got this game several years ago and it has been played many times since then. The game consists of the box that it comes/stores in, 3 thin cardboard sheets with pictures on both sides, small matching picture squares and duplo sized Lego blocks.
You slide in a sheet with pictures into the base with the red dot showing (this keeps you from seeing where the pics are) and place the Lego blocks over the cut out squares. Then slide the sheet to the right until a green dot shows and you are ready to play. You play just like the memory game, turn over a card and then lift a lego to see if you find a match.
This game is very easy for young ones to play. There are 3 sets of cards with different levels: pictures only, numbers and letters. The only thing I don't like about the number and letter cards are that the picture is on one side and the letter/number is on the back side.
The inside piece that holds the sheets and blocks is kind of thin and is easy to tear or bend. I wish that this was made a little sturdier. Over all this is a decent game and has been one of our kids' favorites and is still in good condition even though we have had it for at least 4-5 years.

The best thing about the game is the questions get more difficult as the player advances within the chosen level. So, though it may start with single digit number recognition, it advances to double digit number recognition. It may start with asking about general time of day, but then advances to specific time of day and then to reading time on a digital clock.
I recommend this game for pre-K through second grade.
A more detailed description is presented below.

Shoot the correct number to get to navigate through space to get to the ship where the prisoner is held.
Level 1: features recognition of numbers 1 through 10.
Level 2: features subtraction of single digit numbers.
Level 3: features addition of a two digit number with a single digit number.
THE SHIP
To get through the rooms, answer questions about time.
Level 1: questions feature time of day, like when do you usually leave for school (morning, afternoon, evening)?
Level 2: learn how to read time on an analogue clock to the hour.
Level 3: learn to read time on an analogue clock to the half hour.
LIGHTSABER DUEL
Answer the math questions quickly and Skywalker attacks. Answer incorrectly and the enemy attacks. The faster the player answers, the more power they get for their attack.

(More customer reviews)This set comes with two wooden cars. One wooden car came apart on Christmas day. The axel came out and the wheels fell off. No way to fix the car. One wooden car kept flipping sideways and would not make it down the ramp. Matchbox sized cars will also fit, but Thomas trains will not. Wooden cars would sometimes fly off the back sides of the ramps. Kids liked the idea, but we returned our set. Wood ramps were sturdy, but it was VERY difficult to line up the ramps for assembly. As soon as you get one peg in place, the other pegs popped out. Took about 30 minutes to finally put it together. I was dissapointed, as I had looked at many other ramp racers and opted for Melissa &Doug. This product was not reviewed by anyone on Amazon prior to Xmas of 2006, so I hope this review helps other parents.

Monopoly Game Star Wars Saga Edition Review

(More customer reviews)It had been a while since I've taken a look at both Star Wars and Monopoly...Due to the hype for the new movie (EPS 3), I got back into Star Wars...This caused a mass compulsive buying of alot of SW merchandise. One of those items happened to be Star Wars Monopoly.
The paper money is cheap as always...it feels like it'll rip any second...it couldve been a little more durable.
The cities and settlements are sculpted great, and the game board has beautiful art on it.
The game pieces
Darth Vader
Darth Maul
Darth Sidious
Luke Skywalker
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Princess Leia
Yoda
General Grievous
are all extremely well made, bringing characters from all 6 movies.
My only gripe is that they included Grevious over someone like Han Solo or Boba Fett...I don't care for Leia or Yoda much, so I wouldnt have minded those two replaced with some old favorites.
All in all, a great buy and tons of fun to play.

LEGO Minotaurus Game (3841) Review

(More customer reviews)Our family is big on Lego, and board games, so obviously we were intrigued by all the new Lego games. While at the Lego store, they told me that the staff favorite was Minotaurus, and that it was somewhat like Sorry. We love Sorry, so I thought we'd like this one too!
The goal is to get your heroes to the center of the board first. But there are hedges and walls making a maze that you have to wade through. You roll the die and go that amount of spaces. If the die lands on black, then you can move the Minotaur 8 spaces, hopefully taking out one of your opponents and sending him back to start. If the die lands on grey, then you move a grey wall brick - you can block your opponents' path, or keep the Minotaur from reaching you, etc.
The basic game has you win when you have one hero reach the center, but it's actually way more fun when you require all three heros to be there. Then you have time to really mess up people's pathways and get the Minotaur action going. We also like to play the variation with the addition of a green die option, which enables your hero to jump over a hedge.
The die has got rubber edges, which means it bounces all over when you roll it. It is both funny and annoying at the same time. Be prepared for it to get bounced off the table over and over again. The kids think it is hilarious.
The major downside is that the pieces are regular-sized lego pieces, so they can be hard to manipulate in the tight spaces of the maze. My youngest is 5.5, and he is just barely able to deal with the smallness of it. (But the recommended age on the box is 7+, so he is below that, but he just loves the game.) It would be nice to see a duplo version - I don't know if that would be too big or not.
Anyway, my kids have been wanting to play this every night since we got it. You have to have kids that are okay with getting knocked back to start and a little trash talk. If your kids are traumatized by Sorry, then they won't like this. But if your kids are more cutthroat, then they'll love it. Every time the Minotaur gets unleashed in our games, everyone starts chanting "Min-o-taur! Min-o-taur!" while the hapless hero screams, "Nooooo!!!!" We've been having a blast with it.

U-Build Monopoly Review

The pieces don't always stay together and the money is annoying, I much prefer the money system of the original monopoly game.

Lego.com sells this for $19.99 plus $4.97 to ship--saw other sets on Amazon similarly over priced (with shipping, nearly double the true retail price from LEGO!). We were going to purchase from Amazon until we saw the price difference and ended up purchasing at a LEGO store.

My 9 year old daughter and 7 year old son really enjoy it, my 6 year old likes it but does find it a little more challenging than the older two, and my 4 year old daughter like to have her turns. Clue Harry Potter Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this board game thinking that the only allure it would have for my 8 year old son was the fact that it was Harry Potter based. I was happy to be wrong and surprised . I love that there is an added level to the old style clue with the dark mark deck and help cards. The most challenging part for my three boys is not losing all of your house points before you can rescue the lost student. If your child is a Harry Potter fan or not i think this toy is a very smart purchase and very worth the price paid for it. I would only say that you should be aware this is definately not for anyone younger than 7 reading is a big must.(my 4 year old was broken hearted he couldn't play too, so he became the dice thrower!)

LEGO Hogwarts Game (3862) Review

(More customer reviews)The Harry Potter Hogwarts game is an incredible value at just under $30. First you are able to build the game board, so it's equivalent to a normal Lego set. Then you play! The introductory game play is simple enough and complex enough for both kids and adults to enjoy. My favorite part was listening to the brainstorming that occurs when players (yes, grown ups and kids) realize they can adapt the game in an infinite number of ways. Best toy I have seen to stimulate imagination, cooperation, and creativity. My eight year old son even plays with the board game by himself creating and playing out different Harry Potter scenarios. I'm very thankful the game comes in a box that is sized just right . . . small enough to store in the game cupboard and big enough to store the game board without having to take it apart. I also appreciate the rubber edges on the dice. (No need to roll the dice in the box to prevent damaging furniture!) The Harry Potter Hogwarts game/toy deserves awards and will likely be be one of the hottest selling items during the Christmas season this year!
Note: We also own Creationary. I would recommend it as well. However, if you need to choose between Creationary and one of the themed Lego games, I would recommend trying the themed games. (Pirates, Monster, Pyramid, Race 3000, etc.) Although, we have only tried Harry Potter Hogwarts at this point. We cannot wait to try the others!
